Many contemporary mobile devices require nano-SIM or 4FF to operate.
Maintaining competition with other mobile operators around the globe, and to provide more and more people with access to its Tru service on trending devices, such as iPhone 5 and iPad mini, Truphone (News - Alert) announced the release of its Tru SIM in the nano SIM format.
Truphone is a mobile communications company operating the Tru mobile phone network. The Tru SIM standard GSM service enables customers to have multiple country numbers and offers local rates for calls, texts and data, even while roaming through MVNO partnerships with local mobile operators.
Complementing the existing micro SIM and standard SIM sizes already available, the nano SIM format of Tru service will enable many iPhone (News - Alert) 5 and iPad mini users to connect and communicate in and between over 200 countries, while eliminating high costs associated with roaming fees while traveling abroad.
Unlike other mobile operators’ nano-SIM, Truphone’s nano Tru SIM has multiple subscriber identities, providing customers with the ability to have multiple international phone numbers on a single device.
Consequently, the nano Tru SIM, in combination with Truphone’s intelligent network, allows customers to communicate with their international contacts more frequently from many places around the globe, however at lower cost.
Apart from these features, Truphone enables its subscribers to receive a single bill, manage one voice and text mailbox, as well as over-the-air updates and access to around-the-clock customer service while traveling internationally.
“Smartphones and tablets are getting smaller, lighter and more powerful,” said Marc LeMaitre, VP of technical sales, Truphone. “Manufacturers are focusing on the device aesthetics and user interface and we’re focusing on keeping those device owners connected - wherever they are.”
LeMaitre added, “To add more power and functionality, smartphone and tablet manufacturers need to conserve space by making the internal components smaller. The nano SIM does this without sacrificing any of the storage and functionality. While not too many people understand what a SIM card is, it is the heart and soul of any GSM mobile device and why it was important to Truphone to get ahead of this upcoming trend.”
Truphone recently quoted in a statement that this additional form factor opens up the service to a very large community of Apple (News
- Alert) users.
A recent CCMI report commissioned by Truphone said, "Newer, emerging global carrier options, such as services enabled by SIMs with multiple international mobile numbers and mobile subscriber identities, are making it possible for companies to strike that all-important balance between connectivity and cost.”
“Such multi-identity SIMs, in combination with network intelligence and negotiated rates, let employees use their existing wireless devices abroad just as they would in their home country so that usability and productivity remain consistent,” The report added. “This approach usually cuts international roaming bills by an estimated 30 percent to 90 percent, eliminating the high anxiety about bill shock."

- SIM Management for Mobile Termination
To offer better rates on local mobile networks, Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) have to optimize Call Termination costs and maximize SIM cards usage. - SIM Management for M2M Platform Validation
The M2M solutions deployment is very complex and difficult to test and validate in the lab. Gateways and probes on-site deployment are subject to numerous constraints such as GSM 3G coverage, unexpected multi-operator roaming, international roaming, tariff and service restrictions. - SIM Management for Mobile Testing
In order for a Mobile Network Operator to be successful, reduce churn and increase customer loyalty, the need to shift from testing network to perform a complete “end to end” QoS Testing has become obvious.
