SIM Server

Some exciting news has made its way into the SIM server space. Pakistan’s only SIM manufacturer, Kwick High Tech and Solutions, is now proposing a new biometric solution to mobile phone operators in the country to better help identity their customers.

This new system can reportedly communicate instantaneously with cellular companies’ data servers for the purpose of validating national identity card holders, one report divulges. Yesterday, The Express Tribune also reported that in addition to this, there is a module that can use the GPRS/EDGE service as an efficient communication channel, which can be deployed at such places as retail outlets to validate the customer against his or her Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) – even before selling a SIM.

The report continues that apparently, ever since SIMs were banned from retail outlets in the country, the telecom regular had asked all mobile phone companies to work on devising a biometric solution for verifying the identity of its customers.

This system is reportedly slated to deploy no later than February 28, however, cell companies are still waiting for the final say-so’s regarding further procedures.
