With the miniaturization of smartphones, PCs, GPS watches and other portable devices, every component and slot in the gadget must similarly reduce in size. Some of the most neglected and hard to redesign consist of component plug-in interfaces such as charging ports, USB ports and micro-SIM slots.
In light of this, Molex (News
- Alert) Incorporated, a specialist in designing micro-SIM card sockets, has come up with a new and simple solution with its micro-SIM push-push card sockets, which are compact and deliver high contact with advanced retention mechanisms to counter accidental card ejection.
In line with the trend OF miniaturization, the sockets come equipped with additional and more effective functionalities, boasting anti-shorting and card polarization features that ensure protection of both the card and the data it contains. There is even a card-tray version that provides equal retention assurance while offering easy access of the card to the user.
Designers at Molex have also managed to reduce the size by an impressive 52 percent, which means the slot now measures 12x15mm from the predecessor Mini-SIM card’s 15x25mm. Its height, however, varies according to the model you go for; available are the 1.35, 1.40 and 1.45mm models, which serve as a necessary flexibility for different gadget manufacturers in the market.
With its wide finger area on the shell, this Molex micro-SIM card socket is on a class of its own, as it does not need a tool to pry loose the card it holds. Additionally, extraction with bare hands is smooth, and the card will not accidentally fly off during insertion or extraction due to the restraining secure lock mechanism.
The holder has a higher contact normal force 0f 0.30 N for better linking of the SIM and gadget contact plates. This, coupled with its polarization feature, gives device mobile gadget designers the power to slim their designs without worrying about the versatility of their slots.
These halogen and lead-free micro-SIM card sockets come in standard six circuit and optional eight circuit models, both of which are ELV and RoHS certified. They definitely will live to “offer manufacturers flexibility and superior product performance,” according to Molex’s Product Manager, Doug Jones.

- SIM Management for Mobile Termination
To offer better rates on local mobile networks, Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) have to optimize Call Termination costs and maximize SIM cards usage. - SIM Management for M2M Platform Validation
The M2M solutions deployment is very complex and difficult to test and validate in the lab. Gateways and probes on-site deployment are subject to numerous constraints such as GSM 3G coverage, unexpected multi-operator roaming, international roaming, tariff and service restrictions. - SIM Management for Mobile Testing
In order for a Mobile Network Operator to be successful, reduce churn and increase customer loyalty, the need to shift from testing network to perform a complete “end to end” QoS Testing has become obvious.
